Haines 3: The Brown Bear May 30, 2007

These are not good pictures as it was around 11 PM but you can see the blob of the brown bear I saw. This is the first brown I have seen that is not stuffed. The Juneau and Fairbanks airports each have an impressive stuffed brown on display. The only other bear I have seen in the wild was a black bear cub in Canada back in high school (from a car).
All day a few of us were talking about wanting to see a bear. A local resident told us where he saw one fairly regularly so we went to check it out. Well, there it was. Just off the side of the road digging for roots. He is larger than a baby bear but not full grown. In this picture he is about 25-30 yd away.
The twilight looks kinda spooky in these pictures because I had to change the color settings to see anything at all in the picture.

Can’t see it? Look at the blob in the center. The bear is sitting down facing away with his head looking left.
In this picture below he walked down the beach a little. You can now see an abandoned house off to the right. His head is turned looking at us and you can see the glow of his eyes.
